Curling is a team sport played on ice where strategy and precise movements are at the forefront. This game attracts great interest, especially during the winter months and among ice sports. Curling has its own unique terminology, and these terms are of great importance in understanding and following the game. Here are some important technical terms and their explanations in the sport of curling:

Sheet

'Sheet' is the name given to the ice rink where the game of curling is played. A standard curling sheet measures 44.5 meters in length and 4.75 meters in width. At each end of the sheet, there are target areas called the 'house', which are the zones where the game's score is determined.

Stone

'Stone' refers to the granite stones used in curling. Each stone weighs approximately 19.96 kg and is slid across the ice in an attempt to place it inside the target house. There is a handle on top of the stone, which players use to throw it.

House

'House' defines the target area located at both ends of the sheet, consisting of circles of specific diameters. At the center of the house is the smallest circle called the 'button', surrounded by circles named 'four-foot', 'eight-foot', and 'twelve-foot' with increasing diameters. For a team to score, they must place at least one of their stones closer to the center than the opponent's stones within these circles.

Delivery

'Delivery' is the name given to the action of a player throwing the stone in curling. During the delivery, the player pushes off from the starting point called the 'hack' behind the stone and slides it across the ice toward the target house. In this process, the combination of balance, accuracy, and the correct speed is extremely critical.

Curling becomes more enjoyable and understandable by learning these terms and thinking strategically.
