Located in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is one of the rare destinations that offers two distinct surf seasons on the island's east and south coasts. Arugam Bay's legendary right point break and the calmer beaches on the south coast bring together surfers of all levels. The island's tropical vegetation and coastal villages add a cultural layer to surf tours. Bays surrounded by palm trees and harbors filled with fishing boats add an authentic texture to surf breaks.
Arugam Bay on the east coast is a world-renowned spot with its long and consistent right point break, catering to intermediate-to-advanced surfers; nearby Peanut Farm and Whiskey Point offer softer alternatives. Weligama on the south coast is Sri Lanka's most popular lesson center for beginners with its wide sandy beach and gentle waves. The reef breaks around Hikkaduwa add variety for intermediate surfers. Mirissa's coastline also offers an additional alternative for lesson sessions with its calm waves.
The package includes connecting flights from Turkey to Colombo, road transfers, accommodation, daily surf lessons or guided sessions, and basic equipment including boards. Breakfast is standard in accommodation. Transitions between the east and south coasts can be included in the tour program depending on the season.
While Weligama and Hikkaduwa are suitable for beginners, Arugam Bay is recommended for experienced surfers. The south coast offers the best wave conditions between November and April, while Arugam Bay on the east coast is best from May to September; thanks to this cycle, the island is suitable for surfing all year round. Turkish citizens must apply for an electronic travel authorization (ETA) in advance to enter Sri Lanka; it is recommended that the passport be valid for at least six months. Due to the warm tropical water temperature, a wetsuit is generally not required.
