Surrounded by unique fairy chimneys, valleys, and underground cities, Cappadocia is one of Turkey's richest regions for cycling and mountain biking (MTB) routes. Trails passing through valleys such as Kızılçukur, Güvercinlik, and Ihlara offer terrain suitable for both technical MTB tracks and scenic touring. Narrow paths winding through volcanic tuff rocks provide particularly impressive views during sunrise and sunset. This tour aims to explore the region's volcanic landscape on two wheels. The villages and vineyards along the route also add cultural richness to the ride.
The program covers transfers from accommodation or meeting points to the starting point, provision of suitable bicycles and helmets (gloves, knee-elbow pads upon request), and guidance throughout the track by an experienced cycling guide. Water and snack breaks are provided along the route; full-day programs include a lunch break. A bike fitting and basic safety briefing are conducted at the start, and the guide accompanies participants through technical sections along the trail.
Most valley routes require a moderate level of physical fitness; technical trails are suitable for advanced MTB riders, while flat and gently sloping routes are suitable for families and beginner-level participants. The guide can adjust the route and pace according to the group composition. Anyone with basic cycling skills can join throughout the tourism season; the program also offers frequent stops for photography enthusiasts.
The cycling season in Cappadocia offers the most favorable temperatures and soil conditions during the spring and autumn months, specifically from April to June and September to November. In summer, early morning hours are preferred to avoid the heat, while some trails may be closed in winter due to snow and frost. Helmet use is mandatory, and the guide provides safety instructions for technical descents. Since the volcanic tuff ground can be slippery after rain, weather conditions are assessed in advance, and alternative routes are followed if necessary.
