What is this training?
This beginner tennis course in Samsun, one of the largest Black Sea cities, invites you to a healthy and enjoyable hobby by the sea. Even if you have never held a racket, our experienced instructors take you from the very basics and transform you into a player who enjoys the court with correct technique. At easily accessible courts in the İlkadım and Atakum districts, in small groups, you progress step by step. This course prepares you not for a tournament but for the joy of tennis.
Why start tennis in Samsun?
Samsun lies in the mild climate of the Black Sea; since summers are not too stifling, playing on outdoor courts is comfortable, though rainfall can occasionally be significant. The most productive time is late spring and summer when rain decreases; in this period the seaside courts come alive. On rainy days, indoor facilities step in to keep training uninterrupted. The wide walking and sports areas along the Atakum shore nourish the city's active-life culture. Thanks to the young population of Ondokuz Mayıs University and the developed tram network, transport is easy and you can reach the courts comfortably from any point in the city.
What is in the training program?
The program is built entirely for the beginner level. First you learn the basic grips: eastern for the forehand, continental for serve and volley, and one- or two-handed for the backhand. Then we move to correct stance, weight transfer and footwork, learning to reach the ball on time through the split-step, side shuffles and recovery steps. On the forehand we work on the backswing, torso rotation and forward swing; on the backhand, shoulder turn and a balanced finish. We introduce the serve with the ball toss, rhythm and basic motion. Through drills that develop hand-eye coordination you learn to meet the ball at the right time, along with court rules, lines and tennis's scoring system (15-30-40, advantage, set, match).
Safe practice in a rainy climate
In the humid air of the Black Sea, the surface can be slippery; so proper court shoes, a warm-up and stretching routine before every lesson, and careful movement matter. On rainy days, training moves to an indoor facility. Slow balls are used for beginners and the pace is increased gradually.
What awaits you in the first lesson?
Do not worry about day one; if you do not have a racket we provide equipment support and recommend suitable shoes. In small groups of up to six, the instructor attends to everyone one-on-one. In the first hour you get to know the court, try the basic stance and make your first forehand attempt with soft balls. Amid the sea air, most participants feel the joy of getting the ball over the net by the end of the first lesson.
