What is this training?
This beginner tennis course in Malatya, the capital of apricots, opens the doors of the court even to people who have never held a racket. Alongside our experienced instructors, at easily accessible facilities in the Battalgazi and Yeşilyurt districts, you learn the fundamentals patiently and with correct technique. This course is not competition preparation; it is designed for you to love tennis and enjoy movement and learning. Whatever your age or past sporting experience, we start from the very beginning.
Why start tennis in Malatya?
This lively city of Eastern Anatolia has a continental climate, with hot dry summers and harsh winters. The most enjoyable time for outdoor courts is therefore the mild weeks of spring and autumn. Malatya's dry air makes playing tennis quite comfortable in the cool of summer evenings. In winter, training continues without interruption at indoor facilities near the city center. The lively youth population of İnönü University and the city's growing sporting awareness expand interest in tennis every year.
What is in the training program?
The program is built entirely for the beginner level. First you learn the basic grips: eastern for the forehand, continental for serve and volley, and one- or two-handed for the backhand. Then we move to correct stance, weight transfer and footwork on court, learning to reach the ball on time through the split-step, side shuffles and recovery steps. On the forehand we focus on the backswing, hip and torso rotation and forward swing; on the backhand, shoulder turn and a balanced finish. We introduce the serve with the ball toss, rhythm and basic motion. Through drills that develop hand-eye coordination you learn to meet the ball at the right time, along with court rules, lines and tennis's scoring system (15-30-40, advantage, set, match).
Weekly flow and progression
Lessons run twice a week in one-hour sessions. Each begins with a dynamic warm-up and stretching, continues with technical work, and is reinforced with short rallies. By the end of the first month you can perform consistent basic strokes, and in the second month begin play with a serve. In small groups of up to six, the instructor attends to everyone one-on-one.
About equipment and the court
Do not worry about day one; if you do not have a racket we provide equipment support and recommend suitable court shoes. Slow balls appropriate for beginners are used, making it easier to track the ball and make the right shot. In the first hour you get to know the court, try the basic stance and hit your first forehand with soft balls.
Frequently asked questions
Participants in Malatya most often wonder whether never having done sport before is a problem; it is not, because warm-up and conditioning are part of the program and the pace increases gradually. You need not invest in equipment at first; a racket is provided. For those coming from Battalgazi and Yeşilyurt we keep lesson times flexible. In summer lessons are scheduled for the cooler hours, and in winter we continue indoors. Attending twice a week is enough for visible progress; just bring water, a towel and comfortable sports shoes.
