What is this training?
The Kızkalesi coast of Mersin, with the warm waters of the Mediterranean, a long diving season and its historical fabric, is a special spot for those about to start underwater sports. Known for its famous castle standing in the middle of the sea, the region offers an ideal environment for a beginner-level scuba diving course thanks to its generally calm conditions and favourable water temperature. This program is designed to prepare participants with no prior diving experience for their first certified dives in a safe and gradual way.
The course consists of three stages: theory lessons, shallow water practice and open water dives. In the theory part, we address the fundamentals of diving physics, the effects of pressure on the body, equipment familiarisation and correct use, dive planning, hand signals and emergency procedures. During the shallow water stage, basic skills such as mask clearing, regulator recovery, achieving neutral buoyancy with the BCD and ear equalisation are reinforced through repeated practice in a safe environment.
Once the participant reaches a level where they can comfortably perform these skills, we move on to open water dives accompanied by a certified instructor. The sandy and rocky seabeds around Kızkalesi, its historical remains and marine life observable by season make the training dives both instructive and visually rich. Our program is run with a low diver-to-instructor ratio, so every participant progresses confidently, receiving adequate attention, supervision and personal feedback.
All the diving equipment needed throughout the course (tank, regulator, BCD, mask, fins and a suitable wetsuit) is provided by us. Participants only need to bring a swimsuit, a towel, sun protection and comfortable clothing. The program is open to anyone over the age of 10 who can swim and whose health does not prevent diving. A short medical statement is completed before participation, and a doctor's approval may be requested where deemed necessary.
History and the sea together: Kızkalesi, with its famous castle in the middle of the sea and the ancient ruins around it, is one of the rare spots that combine diving with a cultural discovery. The program usually spans two days: theory and shallow water skills on the first day, open water dives on the second. In this part of the Mediterranean, the water stays warm for a long time, providing great flexibility in the training calendar. The number of participants is kept limited, so the instructor can closely follow each diver. Beyond diving, the castles of Kızkalesi and Korykos, the "heaven and hell" sinkholes and the surrounding beaches turn your training into an enjoyable Mediterranean holiday. On request, we can provide guidance on accommodation and transport to make your process easier.
Participants who successfully complete the assessment at the end of the program earn an internationally valid entry-level diver certification and become able to dive to certain depths under the guidance of a dive leader. Safety is our greatest priority: all equipment is regularly maintained, dives are planned according to current, wave and visibility conditions, and every group is led by an experienced dive leader. If you would like to take your first step into the underwater world safely, accompanied by a professional team, contact us for available dates and reservations.
