What is this training?
Belonging to Çanakkale, Gökçeada is Turkey's westernmost island and a legendary gathering point for wind-sports enthusiasts. Kefalos Bay in the island's Aydıncık area, with its strong and steady wind, is a true paradise for kitesurfing. This 6-hour beginner course is designed to introduce those with no prior experience to kite surfing in a safe and structured way, wrapped in the magic of the island atmosphere. Experiencing your first glide on this island where sea, wind, and freedom meet is far more than an ordinary holiday.
Why kite surfing here?
Because of its geographic position, Kefalos Bay faces the prevailing Aegean winds head-on, turning it into an extremely stable, powerful wind zone. The island winds blow reliably on most summer days, making lesson planning and the learning process predictable. The bay's wide beach and the shallow, wave-free water at the entry area create an ideal learning zone for beginner-level riders. Another feature of Kefalos is the island's untouched nature and its wild beauty framed by rolling hills in the background. Learning kite surfing in a clean, energetic atmosphere far from the crowds makes the experience far more special. The island's wind is a source of motivation that constantly carries you forward as you learn.
What happens in the 6-hour beginner course?
The course follows a gradual, safety-first structure. In the first stage we hold a theory and safety briefing on land; you learn the wind window, the kite's power dynamics, and the quick-release systems. Because Gökçeada's wind is strong, this safety knowledge is especially important here. Then we move to land training; with a small trainer kite you learn the fundamentals of kite control, feeling the wind window and the right timing. This stage is the foundation for progressing safely in strong wind. Then you head into the shallows and learn to control the kite's pull with the body dragging technique. Toward the end of the day you make your first riding attempts with the board. When Kefalos's strong yet steady wind is combined with the right technique, it makes feeling that first glide quite achievable. At every step you are under the instructor's supervision.
Who can join?
This experience is designed for those with no prior experience. It is completely normal never to have done kite surfing before; the course starts from scratch. Basic swimming ability, reasonable physical fitness, and a spirit eager to learn are enough. Although Gökçeada's wind is strong, our instructors adjust the kite and lesson conditions to your level; on beginner days we keep safety at the highest level by using smaller kites and sheltered areas. It is ideal for anyone with an adventurous spirit seeking a learning experience intertwined with nature.
Safety and equipment
All equipment is included in the course fee: the kite, bar, harness, board, and life vest are provided by us. Our instructors are internationally certified and know the island conditions and Kefalos's wind character intimately. In strong-wind zones, safety is the most critical element; that is why, before entering the water, you learn all the emergency scenarios and progress under the instructor's constant supervision. When the power of the wind is paired with the right technique and supervision, it becomes a source of joy rather than danger.
The Gökçeada experience
On Gökçeada, kitesurfing is an island adventure beyond a mere sports experience. After the lesson you can explore the island's windmills, old Greek villages, and untouched coves, and taste the local organic produce. This 6-hour beginner course offers both an adrenaline-filled kite surfing experience and a disciplined, safe learning journey. Tasting the freedom of kite surfing in the purest form of the Aegean winds, at the westernmost point of Turkey, will be a moment etched into your memory. The island awaits you; the wind is ready, and the turn is yours.
