What is this training?
Geyikbayırı, nestled in a valley just behind Antalya's Konyaaltı coast, is a world-famous sport climbing destination and one of the most welcoming places on the planet to take your very first steps on rock. This beginner climbing course is designed for people who have never touched a climbing wall before, guiding you safely to your first route under the supervision of a certified instructor through a patient, step-by-step curriculum. With over a thousand bolted routes and an abundance of easy-graded limestone walls, the area offers a forgiving learning environment where a novice can feel comfortable and confident. The mild winter sun keeps this region accessible throughout the season, and our small group lessons are built so you can absorb the fundamentals without pressure.
Course Content
The course begins with a theoretical introduction on safe ground. You will learn how the climbing system works, the trust relationship between climber and belayer, and the basic command language used on the crag. The certified instructor first introduces the equipment, then demonstrates essential knots. You will practice tying into the harness with a figure-eight knot, the technique of belaying, and correct rope management in a hands-on way. The curriculum follows a progression from easy to hard, so each step is firmly built upon the previous one. During the day, dry practice is done on the ground first, followed by real climbing on short, safe routes.
What You Will Learn
In this course you will discover that footwork is the heart of climbing. You will learn how to conserve energy by weighting your feet, how to step precisely onto tiny holds, and how to keep your balance. You will study different types of grips, core stability, and keeping your hips close to the wall. You will develop route-reading skills, planning your sequence of moves before you climb. As a belayer, you will experience how to hold your partner safely, how to soften a fall, and how to control the lowering process. Breath control, staying calm under stress, and solving problems with technique rather than brute force are all part of these fundamental skills.
Equipment and Safety
All technical equipment is included in the course fee; the harness, helmet, climbing shoes, dynamic rope, and belay devices are provided by the instructor and checked before the lesson. Safety procedures are the most important part of the course. Partner checks, command confirmation, and mutual safety verification are repeated before every climb. The instructor carefully teaches hazard management, correct fall zones, and safe areas to stand beneath a route. Our aim is not only to teach you to climb, but to instill safe climbing habits that will last a lifetime.
Who Can Join?
This beginner course is suitable for adults and teenagers with no climbing experience whatsoever. Having a basic level of fitness is enough; you do not need to be a professional athlete. It is ideal for those wishing to overcome a fear of heights in a safe environment, newcomers to outdoor sports, and groups of friends looking for a different experience. The instructor keeps groups small so everyone receives individual attention and feedback.
Location and Access
Geyikbayırı is easily reachable thanks to its proximity to Antalya city center. The road into the valley from Konyaaltı winds through pine forests and striking limestone walls. The region is a lively hub of climbing culture with camping and accommodation options. The instructor informs participants in advance about the meeting point and site access.
This first day at Geyikbayırı becomes, for most people, the beginning of a new passion rather than just a sport. With solid foundations, safe techniques, and certified guidance, the first bond you form with the rock will lay the sturdy groundwork for all your future climbs.
