First Steps

Training begins with an introduction to nautical terminology and the basic parts of the boat. Students first learn about wind direction, points of sail, and safety in theory lessons on land. Fundamental skills such as knot tying, rope work, and preparing the boat for sailing are imparted. They then perform their first manoeuvres on the water, accompanied by an instructor. Fundamental Sailing Skills

Wind reading is a sailor's most important skill, and here it is developed under safe conditions. Students grasp close-hauled, beam reach, and running points of sail, and learn to perform tacking and gybing manoeuvres at a basic level. The logic of sail trim, helm use, and maintaining the boat's balance are demonstrated in practice. Each step is built upon the previous one, and the student's skills are consolidated gradually. Repeated practice cements confidence.
