What is this training?
This programme is for people who want to actually learn to ride a Motosurf rather than simply try one once and walk away. The six hours of instruction are spread across two or three separate sessions, and the reason is straightforward. Motosurf is physically demanding, and the learning curve moves faster in shorter blocks with rest and mental digestion in between than it ever does in one long day. The gap between sessions lets balance and throttle control settle into muscle memory, which is why participants almost always begin their second session further along than where they finished the first. Instruction is delivered by a certified instructor, and every participant who completes the programme receives a certificate of attendance.
Curriculum and Progression
The first session covers theory and kneeling riding. You learn about the carbon hull, how the jet pump generates thrust, how to feed the wireless throttle in progressively rather than grabbing it, and the logic behind the kill switch. On the water you work on holding a straight line on your knees, accelerating under control and slowing down smoothly. The second session targets standing up: correct foot placement, how much throttle to apply at the moment you rise, and how to drive your body weight forward. The goal here is not to reach forty kilometres per hour but to produce a clean, repeatable stand at modest speed. The third stage is turning. A Motosurf has no steering, so every turn comes from body weight, and this is where you learn to lean onto your heels or toes to open an arc while holding speed without losing control. The competencies you leave with are clearly defined: independent standing riding, controlled turns in both directions, safe starts and stops, and sensible distance and route management around other craft.
Why Bodrum Is the Place to Learn
While you are learning, flat water is not a luxury, it is a requirement. A choppy surface unsettles a beginner's balance and slows progress considerably. The Bodrum peninsula is among the luckiest spots in Turkey in this respect, because its bays face in different directions and the meltemi can blow from the north or the southwest and still leave sheltered water somewhere. Sessions are therefore not tied to one fixed beach but held in whichever bay suits the day's wind, chosen between Torba, Gölköy, Türkbükü, Yalıkavak and Akyarlar. Mornings are reserved for start and turn work, while the stiffer afternoon meltemi is left to more advanced riders. The long season, stretching from late April to early November, makes it easy to spread the programme comfortably across two or three visits, and the clarity of the water helps psychologically too, since seeing the bottom during a fall makes the whole thing feel far less intimidating.
Safety, Equipment and Certification
All equipment is included in the programme: wetsuit, impact vest, buoyancy aid and safety leash. A jet pump system has no propeller, and the engine cuts out instantly the moment the leash detaches. Those two features make motosurf considerably safer for beginners than most people expect. Your instructor is on the water alongside you throughout every session. Participants must be able to swim and be at least sixteen years old. On completion, each rider receives a certificate listing the competencies achieved, which serves as a useful starting reference for anyone who later wants to rent equipment independently or move on to an intermediate programme.
