Ankara Beginner Tennis Course

What is this training?

Fitting the disciplined, dynamic spirit of Turkey's capital Ankara, this beginner tennis course is prepared for anyone who has never played tennis or is new to sport. In this city shaped by a continental climate, both indoor and outdoor courts let you train regularly all year and build a solid technical foundation from scratch. You will progress step by step, guided by an instructor and free of pressure. No prior experience is required.

Why start tennis in Ankara?

Ankara's winters are cold and sometimes snowy, so indoor courts matter greatly here and our program continues uninterrupted even from December to February. The dry, crisp air of spring and autumn is perfect for outdoor courts; April-June and September-October are the most productive periods. You can easily reach facilities in Çankaya, Yenimahalle, Keçiören and around Gölbaşı by Ankaray, metro and bus. The rooted tennis tradition around Altınpark, METU and Bilkent reflects the capital's respect for sport and inspires beginners.

Which techniques are in the program?

Training starts from the basics. First you learn to hold the racket correctly: the eastern grip for the forehand, the continental grip for serves and volleys, and one- or two-handed options for the backhand. Then, through the ready stance, split-step and side steps, you master balanced and quick movement. On the forehand we reinforce the take-back, torso rotation and forward weight transfer; on the backhand, shoulder rotation and a balanced follow-through, all with slow balls. The serve is taught in parts: toss, knee bend and arm extension. Target and reaction drills for hand-eye coordination are added every lesson.

Weekly flow and program

The program is built on two or three sessions a week. The first weeks cover grip, stance and feel for the ball; later weeks add forehand-backhand rallies, serves and simple game scenarios. Every session begins with a full warm-up and dynamic stretching; ready muscles are the key to avoiding injury in the capital's cool air. Court lines, singles and doubles rules and the 15-30-40 scoring system are taught in practice.

About equipment and courts

If you do not have a racket, we provide beginner-friendly ones. We guide you on proper tennis shoes, suitable clothing for indoor courts and grip size. In the cold months, the heated environment of indoor facilities allows comfortable, regular practice.

What happens in your first lesson?

On day one we never leave you alone. In small groups of at most five or six, our experienced instructors give individual feedback to each participant. The first lesson is mostly about feeling the ball, getting to know the racket and gaining confidence with simple shots.

What do you gain as you progress?

Within a few months you will build controlled rallies, put your serve into play and be ready for your first match. Tennis brings conditioning, balance and reflexes as well as mental resilience, adding both physical and mental balance to the capital's planned pace of life.

Who is it for?

This program is open to all beginners regardless of age or experience. Whether you are a student, a working professional or someone seeking a new hobby after retirement, tennis appeals to every age in Ankara. On a cold winter day in the warmth of an indoor court or a crisp spring morning outdoors, we look forward to welcoming you into Ankara's energetic sports community. New friendships, a healthy routine and a lifelong passion begin here.
