Driver equipment

A Formula 1 driver's kit is engineered around two demands: fire resistance and impact protection. The suit, gloves, boots and underlayers are made from flame-resistant fibre and tested to withstand direct flame for a set number of seconds. The helmet combines carbon-fibre construction with a visor rated to stop debris at racing speeds.

The HANS device and the halo

The HANS device restrains the head relative to the torso, preventing the neck loads that once made frontal impacts so dangerous. The halo, the titanium structure above the cockpit, is designed to deflect wheels and debris and has repeatedly proven itself since its introduction.

Tyres

Tyre compounds are part of the equipment, not merely a consumable. The choice between softer and harder compounds sets the strategy for the entire race: grip now against durability later. Watching tyre performance drop away is watching the race being decided.

Team equipment

Beyond the car, a pit crew works with wheel guns, jacks and telemetry systems that report hundreds of channels in real time. A pit stop completed in under three seconds is the visible part of a much larger technical operation.
