About the experience

Kızıldağ Milli Parkı: Sedir Ormanında Harita ve Pusula

In Isparta, Kızıldağ Milli Parkı, which overlooks the western shore of Beyşehir Gölü, is one of the most balanced orienteering areas in the lakes region. The floor of the cedar and pine forest is largely open; the trees are walkable, the view is reasonable, and the ground is covered with a soft layer of needles. The coolness of the highland air makes it easy to move throughout the day, even in summer. We start our guided program with a brief map study: what the colors mean, how the contour lines show the top, ridge, and pit, and how the path and forest road are separated on the map. Then we introduce the compass, practice turning the map north and taking a simple bearing. In Kızıldağ, old cedars, stone wall remains, and forest road intersections form distinct reference points; this allows beginners to orient themselves quickly.

Kontrol Noktaları, Parkurlar ve Süre

Each target has an orange-white control flag and an electronic unit. By touching your SI card to the unit, you record your passage, and at the end of the day, we read all the intermediate times together; seeing which leg you chose the right route is the most enjoyable part of the program. We offer three levels of difficulty. The beginner's course follows the forest roads and scenic viewpoints overlooking the lake, making it almost impossible to get lost. The medium course enters the cedar forest, teaching you to follow ridges and count distances. The advanced course requires route selection and tempo balance between small hills. The half-day program is approximately three hours, and the full-day program is six hours, including breaks and lunch. Our guide never leaves the group alone; everyone has a whistle, the meeting point and time are known from the start, and the plan is shared in advance for areas with no phone signal.

Aile Uygunluğu, Hazırlık ve Kayıt

The program is open to adults and families. The beginner level is completely normal; most participants touch a compass for the first time. Families with children walk the first tour together, taking turns carrying the map to keep the kids interested; parents who want to can take their own courses on the second tour. Bring a sturdy hiking shoe, at least two liters of water, a hat, sunscreen, and a light polar or windbreaker for the highlands; Kızıldağ can be hot at noon, cool in the morning and evening. Your course map, compass, and SI card will be handed out before departure; the first aid kit is on the guide's back. This is a protected area with national park status; we do not step on cedar saplings, do not disturb animals, do not light fires, and take our trash with us. If you want to try map reading among the cedars in Kızıldağ Milli Parkı, the quota is limited, so register early.
