Guided by our experienced captain, sailing the strategic waters of the historic strait, you learn to overcome the heaviest conditions a real mariner will ever meet.

Strong Current Navigation

The Dardanelles has one of the most demanding current systems in the world. The surface current flowing from the Black Sea to the Aegean reaches several knots in places and noticeably affects the boat. Reading this current, planning how to sail against or with it, and continually correcting the drift off your course form the very core of this experience. The complex sea conditions created by current and wind together challenge even the most experienced sailors.

Managing Commercial Traffic

The strait is one of the world's busiest waterways. Sailing safely between giant tankers and container ships demands knowing and applying the international collision-avoidance rules (COLREG), communicating by VHF radio and staying constantly alert. On this route you learn to read the courses of large vessels, apply the right-of-way rules and keep a safe distance. This is a serious seamanship lesson where theoretical knowledge is tested on the real sea.

The Fierce Poyraz

The fierce poyraz of the North Aegean blows with all its might around Bozcaada. This strong north-easterly wind creates short, steep waves and demanding sailing conditions. Setting the sail area correctly by reefing, keeping the boat balanced and holding control in a strong wind are the core skills you will practise for hours along this route. Bozcaada's landscape, dotted with wind turbines, is the finest proof of the power of this wind.

Who It Is For

This is suitable only for sailors with advanced experience who can handle a boat in strong wind and current, who have a firm command of the rules of the sea and can keep their composure in demanding conditions. It is designed for those who want to test themselves in earnest, push their limits and meet the most serious face of seamanship. This experience is absolutely not suitable for inexperienced sailors.

Safety

In these demanding waters, safety is the absolute priority. A life jacket is mandatory for every guest, and a comprehensive, detailed safety briefing is held before departure. Safety harnesses become compulsory on deck in strong wind. Our captain follows the current tables, weather forecasts and ship traffic meticulously, and turns the course to safe waters at once when conditions deteriorate. Best Season

The waters of Bozcaada and the strait offer their most demanding and instructive conditions in the summer months, from June to September, when the poyraz takes on its most characteristic form. In this period the wind is strong but steady, an ideal proving ground for experienced sailors. Spring and autumn can be more variable and unpredictable. A day spent at Bozcaada is an unforgettable challenge in which you experience sailing at its rawest, most authentic and most satisfying, measuring your strength against the sea; when you solve the three-dimensional puzzle of current, wind and traffic, you feel that you have become a true mariner.
