Entering these coves safely, dropping anchor at the right spot and mooring stern-to against a rock or jetty demands real mastery. Mooring Stern-To and Coming Alongside

Mooring stern-to is the signature manoeuvre of traditional Mediterranean seamanship: you drop anchor from the bow and secure a stern line to a fixed point to hold the boat safely. In the sheltered waters near Orhaniye's famous Kızkumu you will have the chance to practise this technique again and again. In coming alongside and casting off, line coordination, fender placement and timing are of critical importance.

Our captain explains every step in advance; who will hold which line, where the fenders will go, so everyone knows their role. When working close to rock and jetty you are given particular guidance on hand and foot safety.

Bozburun and Orhaniye are at their finest across the season from May to October. In the summer months the coves are clear and inviting, and swim stops in suitable spots make a pleasant break from manoeuvring practice. In spring and autumn the coves are quieter and the water stiller, creating ideal conditions for precise manoeuvring work.
