Held on the Urla Peninsula, neighboring Çeşme at the western tip of the Gulf of İzmir, this residential sailing academy camp offers a vibrant learning environment fueled by the region's strong and steady meltem winds. Known for its vineyards and tranquil bays, the Urla coast provides calmer waters in the morning, while the increasing afternoon breeze allows for more dynamic practice for junior athletes in Optimist boats, as well as adults in Laser and adult-class vessels. The five-to-seven-day camp offers a progressive learning journey for beginner and intermediate participants.
Camp days begin with morning theoretical lessons covering wind regimes, boat balance, and basic maneuvers. Initial boat practice takes place in the sheltered part of the bay during the morning hours when the wind is still light, while in the afternoon, as the wind picks up, more advanced participants move on to open-water route and upwind sailing exercises. The day concludes with an evaluation session led by instructors. The peninsula's proximity to open waters allows intermediate participants to learn how to utilize the wind more effectively.
The camp fee includes accommodation, three meals a day, boat and sailing equipment, life jackets, training materials, and a level certificate issued at the end of the camp. Separate program blocks are created for children, youth, and adult groups. Since the accommodation facilities are located near the beach, participants can spend time by the seaside before and after training.
Due to Urla's windy character, a motorized support boat is constantly on-site during every training session, the use of life jackets is mandatory, and wind intensity is continuously monitored by instructors. When the wind strengthens, participants are easily directed to the sheltered area. Instructors adjust the daily program according to wind forecasts to ensure every participant trains in conditions suitable for their level. Thanks to this structure, the Urla camp offers an educational and safe experience for children, youth, and adults who want to truly get to know the wind and aim to take their skills to the next level.
