What is this training?
Ayvalık, with its countless islets, rocky reefs and rich underwater life, is considered one of Turkey's most established diving regions. The sheltered bays around the Ayvalık Islands, a variety of depth options and generally good visibility create a highly favourable environment for those about to start scuba diving. This beginner-level training program is designed to prepare participants with no experience for their first certified dives through a safe, gradual and enjoyable process.
The course consists of three stages: theory lessons, shallow water practice and open water dives. In the theory part, we cover diving physics, the pressure–depth relationship, equipment familiarisation and correct use, dive planning, hand signals and emergency procedures. During the shallow water stage, basic skills such as mask clearing, regulator recovery, achieving neutral buoyancy with the BCD and ear equalisation are reinforced through repeated practice in a safe environment.
Once the participant reaches a level where they can comfortably perform these skills, we move on to open water dives at selected sites around Ayvalık, accompanied by a certified instructor. The rocky reefs, cave and canyon formations around the islands, along with grouper, two-banded bream and colourful rockfish, make the training dives both instructive and highly impressive. Our program is run with a low diver-to-instructor ratio, so every participant progresses safely, receiving adequate attention, supervision and personalised feedback.
All the diving equipment required throughout the course (tank, regulator, BCD, mask, fins and a suitably thick wetsuit) is provided by us. Participants only need to bring a swimsuit, a towel, sun protection and comfortable clothing. The program is open to anyone over the age of 10 who can swim and whose health is suitable for diving. A short medical statement is completed before participation, and a doctor's approval may be requested where deemed necessary.
A variety of routes: The area around the Ayvalık Islands offers a wide range, from shallow, sheltered bays to more engaging reef and wall dives; this variety allows training dives to be made gradually more challenging and lets you learn something new on each dive. The program usually spans two days and can be adjusted to the participant's pace. The region's long-standing diving culture, experienced guides and steady sea conditions create a reassuring environment for beginners. Ayvalık's olive groves, historic streets and boat tours to the islands make it easy to combine your training with an enjoyable holiday. We keep the number of participants limited and provide guidance on accommodation and transport on request.
Participants who successfully complete the assessment at the end of the program earn an internationally valid entry-level diver certification and become able to dive to certain depths under the guidance of a dive leader. Safety is our most important priority: all equipment is regularly maintained, dives are planned according to current, wave and visibility conditions, and every group is led by an experienced dive leader.
