What is this training?
Held among the underground waterfalls and deep shafts of Tilkiler Cave in the Manavgat district of Antalya, this advanced technical caving course is designed to help participants with basic caving experience master Single Rope Technique (SRT), guided by certified instructors. Tilkiler's challenging vertical structure, its shafts shaped by flowing water, and its deep stations offer one of Turkey's most impressive training environments for applying advanced techniques under real conditions. This program is aimed at experienced cavers who have moved beyond horizontal passage and basic SRT and wish to develop themselves technically.
Course Content
The course begins with advanced SRT theory. Complex rope systems, deviations and intermediate station passes, knot passes, and load distribution are covered in detail. Participants learn the techniques of working in the wet and demanding conditions created by underground waterfalls. The program covers controlled descent (rappel) and efficient ascent (jumar) in deep shafts, setting up vertical stations, and rigging rope. In the rescue fundamentals module, scenarios such as reaching a companion stuck on rope, taking over the load, and safe evacuation are practiced hands-on. Each technique is reinforced step by step under instructor supervision.
What Will You Learn?
By the end of this course you will learn to descend and ascend safely and efficiently in deep shafts and to pass deviations and intermediate stations smoothly. You will understand hands-on how a vertical station is set up, how rope is rigged, and how load management is carried out. You will learn to maintain body and equipment control in the wet environment created by underground waterfalls. You will also gain the ability to make correct and rapid decisions in emergencies by practicing basic rescue techniques. This program gives you the technical competence to prepare for more complex and deeper cave explorations.
Equipment and Safety
All shared technical gear used in the course is provided within the program; helmet, powerful lighting systems, harness, descending and ascending devices, static ropes, carabiners, pulleys, and rescue gear are supplied by the instructors. Because this is an advanced course, safety is handled with the utmost care; a thorough equipment check is carried out before every descent, the double-safety principle is applied without interruption in vertical exercises, and special precautions are taken for wet conditions. The group is kept small, and experienced instructors keep each participant under one-on-one supervision.
Who Can Join?
This advanced program is aimed at participants who have completed basic caving training or have equivalent experience and are confident in descending and ascending with SRT. It is not suitable for beginners. Participants are expected to have good physical fitness, endurance for working in vertical environments, and tolerance for wet and cold conditions. Prior experience level is assessed with the instructors before participation, so that the group is kept at a homogeneous and safe level.
Location and Access
The course takes place around Tilkiler Cave in the Manavgat district of Antalya. The region offers a unique environment for advanced technical practice with its underground waterfalls and deep shafts. The meeting point, approach walk, and access details are shared before participation. Since reaching the cave requires a certain amount of trekking over terrain, participants are advised to be prepared for these conditions.
At the end of this advanced program, participants reach a level of competence that allows them to safely apply the most challenging elements of technical caving and are prepared, on a solid foundation, for independent exploration projects or further rescue training. Accompanied by our certified instructors, you are invited to take your technical mastery in the depths of the underground to the next level.
