Samsun Tennis Experience
About the experience
In Samsun, the largest city of the Black Sea and the land where the War of Independence began, tennis turns into a delightful open-air experience with its broad coastal boulevards, clean air and dynamic energy. Feeling the wind blowing along the green parks that run parallel to the sea as you take your racket in hand, you live the lively spirit of the Black Sea on court. This is not a course; it is a relaxed, social tennis gathering about feeling good. Our aim is not to prepare you for a race, but to help you spend a pleasant few hours by the sea.
Why play tennis in Samsun?
Samsun is one of the largest and most developed cities on the Black Sea coast; with its orderly seafront stretching for kilometres, its green parks and modern sports facilities, it offers fertile ground for outdoor sports. Although its climate is Black Sea, it is a little milder and less rainy than the western and central Black Sea, spreading outdoor tennis over a longer period. Seaside facilities in the Atakum and Ilkadim districts offer spacious courts facing the sea. The broad geography opened up by the Bafra and Carsamba plains adds a sense of spaciousness to the city.
The court and the atmosphere
Samsun's orderly, modern urban fabric turns tennis into a comfortable experience here. The courts are usually in open areas near the shore, surrounded by green parks. The breeze from the sea keeps you cool during play. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed; the energy of the coastal boulevard is reflected on the courts. No one keeps score, everyone is at their own ease; catching your breath while looking out to sea during breaks brings a serenity of its own.
What awaits you in the experience?
A friendly companion welcomes you on court. You first prepare your body with a light warm-up, then get acquainted with the racket and discover at a relaxed pace how to approach the ball. With gently fed balls you make your first strokes over the net and naturally feel the flow of the forehand and the rhythm of the backhand. As you feel ready, we move on to short rallies, net play and simple serve attempts. Our aim is not to prepare you for a race but to let you enjoy that pleasant moment when the ball meets the racket. No competition, no pressure; just movement, laughter and a good day by the sea.
Who can you share the experience with?
Someone who has never played and someone wishing to start again after a long break can both join comfortably. For students of Ondokuz Mayis University it can be a break between classes, for workers a way to shed the week's stress, and for families a chance to move together by the sea. You can come with a friend, your partner or on your own. Everyone up to intermediate level feels at ease here; no flawless serve is expected.
Best season and hours
The most pleasant times for tennis are the clear days of spring, summer and autumn. In summer, morning or late afternoon hours with the sea breeze are ideal. Although Samsun's climate is generally mild, Black Sea weather can be changeable; on rainy days the schedule may be flexible. Clear spring days are magical for tennis by the shore.
What should you bring?
Comfortable sportswear and flat-soled sports shoes are enough; rackets and balls are provided. Because Black Sea weather can be changeable, keeping a light windbreaker with you is wise. Ending the day with tea or a walk on the coastal boulevard near the Ataturk monument is the most Samsun way to finish. Fill your water bottle and leave the rest to us; just enjoy tennis by the sea.
