Incesu Cave Underground Exploration Experience
About the experience
Located in the Taşkale town of Karaman, the İncesu Cave is regarded as one of the most visually rich caves in Türkiye. In this full-day experience, accompanied by professional guides, you will walk along a long and horizontal route to discover the cave's mesmerising stalactites, stalagmites and travertine pools. Sitting between beginner and intermediate level, this experience offers a unique opportunity both for those interested in nature photography and for those wishing to experience the aesthetics of the underground world.
About the Cave
İncesu offers a walking-focused cave experience with its long and horizontal structure. The cave's most striking feature is its extraordinarily rich dripstone formations. Stalactites hanging from the ceiling, stalagmites rising from the floor, and the columns formed where the two meet, transform the cave's galleries into a veritable museum of nature. In addition, the travertine pools formed inside the cave offer a unique visual feast with their crystal-clear waters. These pools formed thanks to minerals deposited over thousands of years by calcium-rich water. Since İncesu's galleries are wide and walkable, no vertical equipment or technical climbing is required. This structure makes the cave both a safe and visually satisfying experience. As you advance through the cave, you encounter different formations in every gallery and witness these works of art that nature patiently created.
What the Experience Is Like
The experience begins with a meeting and introduction at the cave entrance. Your guide gives a briefing explaining the cave's structure, the route to follow, and the safety rules. After putting on your equipment, you enter the cave. In the light of your head lamps, you walk along wide galleries, pass between stalactites and stalagmites, and proceed along the edge of the travertine pools. Throughout the route, guides explain how the formations came to be, the cave's geological history, and the delicate ecosystem within it. Progressing through such a visually rich environment is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the experience; at every corner, views await that will make you want to take photographs. At a suitable point, a break is taken and a packed cave lunch is served. This walking-focused route lasts several hours depending on the group's pace. At the exit, returning from the aesthetic world of the underground to daylight adds a sweet closing to the experience.
Equipment and Safety
All the equipment needed for the experience is provided by us: a protective helmet, a powerful head lamp, an overall that protects against mud and damp, and sturdy boots. Our guides are experienced and certified cavers with first-aid training. Since the cave floor can be wet and slippery in places, guides remain constantly beside the group for safe passage. In addition, information is given on how to move so as not to damage the delicate dripstone formations; this is important both for your safety and for the protection of the cave. A safety briefing is always given before entering the cave, and group order is maintained. The only thing you need to bring is a dry change of clothes and spare shoes for after the experience.
Who Is It Suitable For?
The İncesu experience sits between beginner and intermediate level. Anyone with basic physical fitness who can walk for a few hours and feels comfortable in dark, enclosed spaces can join. Thanks to its walking-focused structure, it requires no technical caving skill, which makes it suitable for a broader range of participants. No prior caving experience is required. However, it is not recommended for those with serious heart or respiratory conditions or claustrophobia. Anyone who wants to see the visual beauties created by nature up close, photography enthusiasts and those with an adventurous spirit, will greatly enjoy this experience.
