Ankara Tennis Experience
About the experience
The capital's cool, dry air and wide green spaces offer an unexpectedly ideal setting for tennis. Ankara is a city built on the high plateau of Central Anatolia, experiencing all four seasons distinctly. At Sporara, we invite you to a relaxed and social open-air tennis experience that fits the calm rhythm of this orderly city. The aim here is not to undergo technical training, but to enjoy picking up a racket, getting acquainted with the ball, moving in fresh air and having a pleasant time. In this gathering, open to all levels, there is neither an exam nor a race; just you, a racket and a pleasant break.
Why tennis in Ankara?
Ankara's high-altitude, low-humidity climate creates a more breathable environment even in summer compared to coastal cities. Cankaya's tree-lined ridges, Golbasi's open skies, and the modern sports complexes around Or-An and Umitkoy offer favorable options for open-air tennis. The city's long-established sports clubs and university campuses introduced tennis to residents' lives many years ago. The areas around campuses like METU and Bilkent are centers of a sport-inclined culture. Ankara's orderly urban structure brings a calm and peaceful atmosphere to the courts as well.
Court and atmosphere
The courts where our experience takes place are surrounded by the shade of trees and the city's airy weather. Hitting the ball in a calm corner away from the capital's rush adds a nice balance to the intensity of work and city life. A relaxed, encouraging and friendly atmosphere prevails on the court; no one expects a perfect stroke from you. The known measured and courteous manner of Ankara residents shows itself on the court too; everyone is respectful, warm and patient with one another.
Best season and hours
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant periods for tennis in Ankara; the weather is especially clear and mild in May and September. Although days are hot in summer, playing in the shade is comfortable because humidity is low; playing in the air that cools toward sunset is a distinct pleasure. Ankara's weather varies during the day; it is cool in the mornings and warms in the afternoon, so choosing the hour to suit the weather increases enjoyment.
What will you experience?
Our experience begins with a short, relaxing introduction and warm-up. Our guide patiently explains how to hold the racket, how to position your feet and how to make clean contact with the ball. Then you experience forehand and backhand strokes, sending the ball over the net, and simple serve attempts step by step. Water breaks are taken, conversation flows, and care is taken for everyone to progress at their own pace. By the end, you will feel how accessible and enjoyable tennis really is. Our aim is not performance, but sharing and pleasure.
Who can you share the experience with?
This experience is open to everyone, from beginners who have never played tennis to intermediate players wanting to improve their basic strokes. It is ideal for capital residents wanting to break away from a busy work pace, those wishing to spend the weekend with a different activity, or visitors to the city. You can join with friends, family, or on your own. No special fitness or prior experience is required. All you need is comfortable clothing and an open mind.
What to bring
Because of Ankara's variable weather, dressing in layers and bringing a light top is useful. Choose sports shoes and a breathable shirt. Rackets and balls are provided by us, but you may bring your own racket if you have one. In summer, sunscreen and a hat are helpful, while a light top against the wind is useful closer to winter. Do not forget to drink plenty of water. The experience lasts on average one and a half to two hours, and the group is kept small so everyone can play enough. Amid the capital's calm energy, be ready to get acquainted with the simplicity of tennis.
